Welcome to the CAIDS Portal!
The California Insurance Diversity Survey (CAIDS) is administered pursuant to California Insurance Code section 927 et seq. as part of the nationally-recognized Insurance Diversity Initiative at the California Department of Insurance. The reported CAIDS data helps the Department understand the state of supplier and governing board diversity amongst the nation's now $1.84 trillion insurance industry. Specifically, these efforts are meant to encourage increased procurement from the nation's diverse suppliers and greater diversity on insurer governing boards.
How to Use the CAIDS Portal: Use the search options in the left side tool bar to view the reports that have been submitted by the insurer group/company respondents. Data from the reports can also be seen in aggregate totals using the various search functions.
Search for Group/Company: Search the database by key word (i.e. by company name or NAIC code) to find specific company reports.
Governing Board Diversity: Beginning in 2018 and each year thereafter, pursuant to California Insurance Code Section 927.3, data related to the Governing Board Diversity section of the survey shall be displayed in the aggregate, and shall not identify an individual respondent or insurer. Aggregated responses are based on companies that have submitted a report. The information posted herein is provided for informational purposes only. When the page loads or is reset, the default selection will be “2020 to Current.”
Insurer Supplier Diversity: Search the database by report responses to the Insurer Supplier Diversity (ISD) section of the CAIDS. Once you choose your desired criteria, all reports that satisfy that criteria will be listed. You may then choose a report to view.
Group/Company Procurement Charts: Search the database by report responses to the Charts section of the CAIDS. Once you choose your desired criteria, all reports that satisfy that criteria will be listed. You may then choose a report to view.
Overall Procurement Totals: Aggregate data from all report charts can be found here. You can also search by specific chart criteria to find the aggregate totals from all reports.
• Data reported at the National (NATL) level is the procurement total for all 50 states combined, while the location specific data is the procurement reported in the states which participated in the administration of the survey each year. NATL data does not equal the sum of the state locations listed.
Spend Scenario and ISD: Search the database by report responses to the Charts section of the CAIDS based on location specific procurement spend scenarios and also answers to the ISD narrative portion of the survey. Once you choose your desired criteria, all reports that satisfy that criteria will be listed. You may then choose a report to view.
Ethnicity Spend: Search the database by report responses from the Charts section of the CAIDS based on the known procurement spend by specific ethnicity for two certifications: Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Multi-Certified Business Enterprise (MCBE).
Download CAIDS Data: Raw data from all reports are available to you in excel format. There are seven options from which to choose to view the raw data available.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All data is self-reported by the respondent insurance companies and is not verified by the California Department of Insurance. Data provided via the California Insurance Diversity Survey (CAIDS) Portal is a direct result of the information contained in the reports. The CAIDS requires companies to electronically sign an affidavit attesting to the accuracy of the information contained in the surveys at the time of submission. Data is analyzed by the Department’s Data Analytics & Research Division to ensure appropriate statistical validation.
